Hello Champions! I am wrapping up this series of High Fives looking at the 5 best basic allies. Now whole basic is not an aspect I still wanted to give these allies their own list. Let’s dive in.
5. Nick Fury
Nick Fury was an staple in decks since the games release and while I find myself including him less and less in decks,in favor of cheaper options, he is still really good and really versatile. He has a really solid stat line with 2/2/3 but his ability is what makes him so good. You get 2 threat removed, 2 damage, or get to draw 3 cards on top of his 2/2 and a block. We all I’m sure know we want to chump block with Nick since he will be discarded at the end of the round anyway.
4. Groot
Groot is a monster. He is a 3 cost tank having 6 health! His 2 attack does come with 2 consequential damage so you probably use him to thwart on your turn if you don’t block with him. But really he’s here to take hits. After he defends an attack he heals for 2! He’s really great for tanking minions and is good for a few villain hits too. The healing is insane and makes Groot a staple ally in any guardian deck!
3.Lockjaw
The goodest boy is one of my favorite allies in the game and I’ve defended the lockjaw hill since he released. I fully expect pushback from people that I think probably under appreciate lockjaw, I’m ready for that smoke. He is a little expensive at 4 and the 2 consequential looks less than great initially but his ability is so strong that’s why you play him. Lockjaw is an ally on demand, if you draw one of those full resource hands and have no cards to play? Get lockjaw out from discard. Playing him from discard also lowers his effective cost by one since its one less card out of hand. The way I like to play lockjaw is to use him to pay for something else then play lockjaw so I was able to use him as a resource then get to play him at an effectively reduced cost. Then you can thwart or attack and block with him and do it again.
2. Spider-Man
Another really solid 3 cost 3 health ally with the 1 thwart and 2 attack. His ability to get +2 the turn he enters play is awesome that lets you thwart for 3, attack for 2 then get a block out of him. Really strong and versatile stuff. Really solid. Will get even better with the champions synergy in the sinister motives wave.
1. Ironheart
I doubt that this is much of a surprise. Cheap 2 cost ally that draws you a card. Not as strong as Maria Hill but is certainly insanely strong for a basic ally. The card draw the cheap body. Amazing stuff all around for Ironheart. Oh and she will also get some more champion support with future releases!
