I’ll Do It Myself Part 4

Welcome back Champions! It is I, Tommy of Titan, back with another solo deck to take a look at. This time I am not the creator of this list though. The creator of this list is our champion from season one of our draft league JustJack. He was able to pilot his Iron man Protection list to victory against some of really tough encounters including expert Mutagen, heroic 1 Wrecking Crew, and expert Ultron. Let’s take a look at his list.

The main weakness of Iron man (specifically in solo play) is that he takes a little longer to get setup than most heroes. That’s why Jack picked Protection as his aspect. Protection is a really solid aspect, but what it does for Iron man specifically is add 3 tech upgrades to his deck. This makes it so much easier to get setup early, and start doing work in hero form. Not only that, but the tech upgrade happens to be an amazing card in Energy Barrier. It has the ability to block 3 and deal 3 in separate instances. Anyone that has played Iron man or even played with another player playing Iron man knows that once he builds his suit he can do some amazing things and Energy Barrier really helps him do that faster.

This certainly isn’t the traditional Protection deck that is blocking every single round though. This deck is focused on using Protection cards to prevent damage without blocking. It also does a good job of dealing damage back to the enemy in the process. A card like Preemptive Strike is a good example of this.

One downside to this version of the deck is that you are less likely to hit that big Repulsor Blast play. This deck is less all in on the energy resource, and more geared toward getting setup quick. In solo play the Villain has considerably less health though. This makes it tolerable since you have lots of ways to deal solid chunks of damage.

As far as the Mulligan goes, you want to look for any tech upgrade that you can early. Cards that help you draw in other ways are always good to keep, along with anything that improves your resource situation. Setting up quickly is more important for Iron man than most heroes in the game so the mulligan is extremely important. Don’t be afraid to pitch your entire hand to find your tech.

This is certainly one of my favorite Iron man decks to play for solo and in a multiplayer game. I would encourage you to give it a try and see how it works for you. As always, if you are interested in more content please stay tuned here for more articles, as well as checking out The Side Scheme on FB, YouTube, Twitch, Patreon, and wherever you listen to Podcasts. I’m Tommy of Titan ominously drifting into the shadows.
