What’s up Champions?’ BananaCrapshoot back for another installment of High Fives, where I rank my personal top 5 cards inside a given aspect. Aggression is on the chopping block today, and man this card pool really opens up when you get your hands on the Thor hero pack. Let’s get started.
Kicking this off with an old core set classic. We all know what Relentless Assault does at this point. 2 resources for 5 damage is great value. I never really play this without using a physical resource so it always has overkill. Only downside to this card is the initial dmg has to deal damage to a minion. Most minions are 4 health or less it seems, so this card is great to take them out. I know for me personally in scenarios like Mutagen Formula I spend time stabilizing the board before I go in on the villain, so getting dmg through to them before I’m set up and ready to go nice.
Next up we have our first card included in the Thor hero pack, Jarbjorn! This card is pretty ridiculous, any time you attack you can spend a physical resource for 2 dmg. Now a few thinga to note with “any time your Hero attacks”; One is that this only triggers off the hero itself and not allies, another is that it’s ANY “attack“ which includes events with (attack) designation as well as your basic ATK action, and you can use it multiple times in one turn if you are playing out a hand full of (attack) events and you have the physical resources available to you to spend. Lastly the 2 dmg is dealt to “an enemy”, can be a different one than the one you just (attack)ed. I think this card is an auto-include in Aggression deck, regardless of hero.
This one pairs well with Relentless Assault and Jarnbjorn as its completely realistic to play RA and trigger Jarnbjorn and take out 2 minions in the process. Card draw is king in this game and this card allowing you draw 3 is incredible, even Thor can 11-12 card hands on turns he exhausts this thing to draw. Man I cant quantify with words how good drawing 3 cards is, it’s insane. Now this card I recognize isn’t great vs things like wrecking crew and rhino, but our Tougher scenarios all have the ability to put more minions on the board. In the games I’ve been playing with this I averaged 2 exhausts on this a game. That’s 6 cards for 2 resources during the game. Only downside is that you have to flip to AE to fire this thing off but it’s not hard to set up the turns you do for Huge turns.
My only ally on my High Five right now is Valkyrie. I think she’s incredible value for a dmg dealing ally, her basic stat line is what you’d expect for 3 cost. Her response though, straight value. That extra 2 or 3, most of the time, puts her way above the curve for 3 cost ally. Now I know the Response has to target a minion, but it’s not hard to have minions engaged with you as Klaw, Mutagen and Ultron all out minions into play with you early and often. I think Valkyrie is incredible value and she’s in all my aggression decks for the foreseeable future.
The last card on my list is Mean Swing. I saved the best for last, I love this card, I keep it in a toploader under my pillow at night when I sleep. You get +3 ATK for exhausting a weapon upgrade, on your basic attack action. What?!! This card has huge burst even if your only weapon is jarnbjorn this card is 2 of minimum, the upside is just too high. Now this thing really shines in heroes like Thor, who has a weapon is his 15, but I want to mention Black Panther here. The Panther Claws and Energy Daggers are both weapons, combined with jarnbjorn thats 3 weapons the king of wakanda is running around smacking Killmonger with, I’m going to let your mind wander for a few minutes on the possibilities there. I have a BP aggression deck on the dB I like that I’ll link at the end, where the idea is to get as many things to stick on board as possible to cycle wakanda forever and mean swing over and over again. It’s a ton of fun to play.
