Heroic Hulk Out

What’s up Champions?! I hope everyone is staying safe during these crazy times. I wanted to take a minute a to talk about Heroic Mode and my gameplan and thought process tackling this game mode.

Now if you are unaware Heroic is a game mode introduced recently that adds more challenge to the game. Its basically Expert mode with the added effect of dealing yourself additional encounter cards during step 4 of the villain phase. So if you are playing Heroic 1 you would deal yourself 1 additional encounter card and so on.

This has really upped the ante for some of these scenarios, like Rhino Heroic 1 for instance is much less of a surefire win as it’s quite possible to be attacked twice often and for much harder as his attachments will come into play more often. This also makes Klaw go through his deck even faster and makes wrecking crew more of a challenge. Another great thing happening is Shadows of the Past comes up almost every game, which I think is great for the game. So without any more filler let’s dive in to my tips for Hulking Out Heroic.

  1. Forget Avengers Mansion

This card is still good but was amazing at launch, as our card pool has gotten deeper and decks becoming more refined and efficient there’s less need for Avengers Mansion. In heroic especially you don’t really have the time to set up your board state as you can fall too far behind much faster, you need to hit the ground running and playing out Mansion means your hand is gone that turn and you weren’t effective that phase. In 3-4 player game’s I can see including it maybe to really set up Hulk when he releases. But overall it doesn’t do enough for you and is too slow in Heroic.

2. Stun and Confuse

Stun and Confuse is your friend, learn it, love it, be it, be the status token and dropkick that villain with it as much as possible. Getting more encounter cards obviously increased the probability of hitting advance and assault or other cards that scheme/attack. If you don’t stay on top of the board state or have ineffective turns you can really fall behind and get done in a round or two. Stun and Confusing is a known quantity but it’s even more important in Heroic as it gives you some breathing room. I don’t know if any way to beat Klaw Heroic 2 without lots of stun and confuse action going down. This means you are probably playing top end heroes in certain aspects also including certain allies to get as much of these effects in as possible.

3. Play good Hero/Aspect combos

I feel like this one is a no brainer here. Don’t take Thor Aggression into heroic 3 klaw and expect a good outcome when you can’t thwart to save your life, and you will get an acceleration token by round 2. Ideally you want well rounded heroes in aspects that can stun/confuse/ protect. Aggression is probably the worst aspect for solo heroic play, pains me to say that. Justice and Protection are both really solid because stun/confuse and Leadership is so all around good it’s extremely viable. Black Panther is probably the best core set hero suited for heroic since he can deal dmg in chunks to the villain, handle minion swarms, heal himself, retaliate, and still thwart. He does take some set up time but if you pull the right upgrade at set up for each scenario it shouldn’t be an issue. Captain America, Doctor Strange, and Black Widow are the other heroes I think have the best shot I’m Heroic mode games.

That will do it for this one, tell me what you think, and what tips you would give someone playing Heroic. Please check out the rest of our artifles, YouTube videos, and of course the podcast. Stay Scheming Champions.
