Happy Thor day to one and all! It is I, Tommy of Titan, and I’m back to discuss your Thor deck options. I know, I know, Thor Aggression is basically what 95% of the player base is going to sleeve up immediately. Now if you’re playing solo, Have at Thee, but if you’re playing with some friends maybe it would be fun to split up some of the new cards among you. Let’s say in this scenario you decide to play Thor and your buddy is going to play the new Aggression cards. Now I know you could just both play Aggression and that’s absolutely fine, but maybe you want to diversify what you all are playing. That’s what I’m here for. Let’s take a look at what Thor could be outside of Aggression.
I’ll start with my favorite aspect, Protection. While it’s not as fluid as Aggression I would argue that there is some decent synergy here. First of all Nova is an amazing ally and Thor has God of Thunder to fuel Nova’s ability repeatedly. This is also really gonna help you manage all of the minions that allow you to draw those extra cards. Another reason I think this pairing has potential is the simple fact that Thor has a ton of Hit Points. You’ll be able to handle a bunch of minions much easier than most characters with all of the tools Protections offers and in conjunction with Thor’s helmet he is one beefy boy.
Next up is Leadership. I’m confident that this deck will work just fine as well since Leadership is widely considered the most powerful and well rounded of all the aspects at this point in time. The big thing you get from Thor’s pack here is the addition of the card Teamwork, and boy does it make the dream work. In a perfect world you would use this card to exhaust Vision after he has been pumped by his action and maybe even has an inspired on him. That would add either 4 Thwart or 5 Attack to your hero’s stat. The synergy here again comes from the Energy resources that Thor provides with God of Thunder making it much easier to trigger Vision’s action and hitting that big play.
In addition to the Teamwork stuff, I’ve tried to keep some of the cost down in this deck to accommodate the fact that you won’t always have a bunch of cards in hand. I’ve taken cards like Avengers Assemble out in favor of cards like Lead from the Front. Overall I think this deck would work just fine even though Thor probably isn’t the best fit here.
Now let’s take a look at what upside Thor has in Justice. Obviously Justice has the smallest card pool at this point so our options are limited. As I looked through the cards I found myself liking the fact that most of the cards were relatively cheap in cost. This would really help with the base hand size of 4 that Thor brings to the table. Interrogation Room is one of these cheaper cards that could play well with Thor. It’s a 1 cost support that will stay on the table and can be exhausted when you defeat a minion to remove 1 threat from any scheme. This could definitely help keep schemes manageable and works better with Thor than most heroes in the game. Playing this early could have incredible value. You could be removing 10+ threat over the course of the game for just 1 resource.
Another card in Justice that really sticks out to me is Great Responsibility. This card allows you to interact with the game at a time where the heroes have very little at their disposal. It gives you the ability to prevent threat from being placed but you have to take it as damage. Thor having such a large health pool (especially if you play his helmet or Endurance) could really make good use of this card. This gives you the ability to prolong the game and keep you from losing against Ultron once he gets to Assault on NORAD. It’s also great when the villain hits that unexpected Advance.
Of course, everyone has their own play style and places different values on things based on their game experience so I encourage change. Hopefully this has given you a starting point for expanding how you and possibly your play group play Thor.
